  The research team is interdisciplinary in nature of interests and consists of anthropologists, folklorists, a specialist in historical anthropology, ethnomusicologist, ethnosociologist, sociologists. It includes established and young scientists from the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at BAS, the New Bulgarian University, the Plovdiv University "Paisiy Hilendarsky", the University Sabancı – Istanbul. In their work so far, the scholars have accumulated experience with participation in national and international projects for research of: ethnic and religious communities in Bulgaria, Turkey and other countries; the Bulgarian diaspora; processes of re-emigration; places of memory; culture as resource of local development, social research of gender. The scholars have  contributions in ethno-cultural investigations of local communities and cultures, and in the field of urban ethno-sociology.
